Kyla graduated from the University of Queensland in 2014 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and First-Class Honours in research. She later completed a Master’s in Neurological Rehabilitation in 2019 at Australian Catholic University. Kyla is recognized as a Titled Neurological Physiotherapist by the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Kyla has gained enormous experience working full time at a major tertiary hospital in Brisbane, The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. Kyla has also been engaged in part-time work in private practices, university teaching, clinical education and research.
During her time working at the hospital, Kyla has had experience with a variety of general and specialist areas including acute and sub-acute neurosciences, hypertonicity spasticity, oncology and lymphoedema management, general medicine, respiratory medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, intensive care, women’s health, burns, outpatient musculoskeletal and vestibular care.
Kyla has worked in private practices, independently managing musculoskeletal injuries and providing specialist primary contact vestibular practice, cancer care and lymphoedema management and neurological physiotherapy.
Kyla completed an Honour’s research project and has worked as a research assistant at Queensland University of Technology conducting testing in the research laboratory. She has also initiated and been involved in various research projects within the hospital.
Kyla has been employed at universities, namely University of Queensland and Australian Catholic University; delivering lectures, tutorials and practical sessions and is responsible for marking, setting examinations and assignments for various Physiotherapy subjects.
Over her years of practice, Kyla has developed a keen interest in vestibular and neurological conditions, she has a particular interest in back and neck pain, vestibular and vertigo management, stroke and aging with a disability.
Kyla completed her lymphoedema training and has worked in the area of physiotherapy rehabilitation after cancer treatment, early diagnosis and treatment of lymphoedema as well as the management of oncology patients throughout their cancer journey.
Kyla is dedicated to ongoing learning and student clinical education to ensure she provides evidence based treatment to optimize her patients’ recoveries. Kyla has educated various university students in the past five years across the areas of acute stroke/neurosurgery, sub-acute rehabilitation and oncology. Kyla was a member of the APA Neurology Group Committee at a state and national level and is involved in various special interest groups.
Kyla is passionate about getting her patients pain free and back to what they love to do.
