A Brief History of Sounds Vantastic
Initially started in Harare in 1975 by the van Deventer brothers Mark and Peter. We assembled our first DISCO out of our parent’s home Hi Fi. A friend asked us to play music at their party knowing that we had a fabulous collection of records because our parents had kept up with the top 40 songs on the radio every week to help keep our boarding school cousins and older sister entertained.
The Tempest Super 80 and extra turntable and toggle switch as a mixer were replaced by a Tempest Super 100 and two turntables and a slide switch to mix music. By the end of the 70’s Peter was an electronic wiz and Mark an accomplished DJ entertaining in clubs and private functions all around Zimbabwe and our gear was the best that could be made locally. From speaker cabinets, turntable cases, lighting rigs and controllers … we made them all.
In 1983 Mark was offered a swimming scholarship in the USA and with the 1984 Olympics in site Mark moved to the USA. Sounds Vantastic lingered for a while but Peter’s passion was the electronics and management of personalities. Peter became Harare’s top sound engineer doing recording for local shows & radio. He also brought in Cabaret acts and international performers from around the world. Sounds Vantastic became DAE Audio Engineering in Zimbabwe and later Peter was to head DSTV in Zimbabwe. Even with his founding of DSTV in Zimbabwe Peter kept his passion for the music industry and opened Music Mate in Avondale, selling all types of music gear and he also became the local agent for HK speakers systems. Peter is still synonymous with HK in Zimbabwe.
Mark took Sounds Vantastic name to the USA and developed a small sound company in the Chicago area. This was mainly for DJ entertainment and corporate functions. This passion helped pay for University in the USA and took Mark around the world having DJed in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and of course in the USA.
After 29 years in the USA Mark returned to Zimbabwe and took over the HK franchise, old Music Mate stock as well as the extensive stock of professional Audio gear that Peter had accumulated over the years. Sounds Vantastic Pvt Ltd was officially incorporated in Zimbabwe in April 2013 with the goal of promoting the immense local talent with the sale and rental of the finest equipment in the World. Partnering with local lighting and stage companies we have established ourselves as a force to be reckoned with.
With Mark’s wife Phillippa and key employee Weather Nyamuwana, Sounds Vantastic can produce some amazing shows. We are also proud to sponsor numerous charities in Zimbabwe donating our time and expertise to cancer, orphanages, conservation and anti-poaching.Sounds Vantastic is the only factory authorized dealer in any audio systems in Zimbabwe, anyone can sell a system but we can guarantee the warranty on everything that we sell. We have held the HK audio franchise since 2006. We can sell, support and install all of the HK systems available.

HK Line Arrays
Setting the standard for sound in Zimbabwe the HK Cohedra is the benchmark that others try to match but have not quite attained. Sounds Vantastic has just refurbished the Cohedra replacing all of the drivers in the system.
There are 3 HK line arrays in our stock:
